Project objective

As part of the tasks, the following will be developed:

a methodology for using 3D scanning to support numerical modelling, creation and monitoring of wear on casting tooling, and quality control of castings,
an intelligent vision system for eliminating defective moulds from the technological process,
a mass processing station enabling the production of bentonite sand with specified, modified parameters using real-time data acquisition and analysis systems, and achieving raw material recovery at a level of approximately 95%,
a system for pouring, transporting moulds, and collecting castings after the knock-out and shake-out operations to produce high-precision castings,
a hybrid system for machining castings based on geometry control performed during grinding and deburring operations.
The project will include 3 stages of industrial research, 5 stages of development work, and 1 stage of pre-implementation activities.

Project results

As part of the activities carried out within the project, a multifaceted process innovation will be developed for the technology of producing cast iron castings in bentonite moulds. This innovation will cover the stages of: preparation and recycling (reuse) of moulding sand, designing, manufacturing, and quality control of moulds, their pouring, transport of castings, and final machining of castings (grinding) along with quality control.

The project results will be directly implemented in the operations of Odlewnia Kutno, with the possibility of granting licences to other foundry industry enterprises that do not constitute direct competition for Odlewnia Kutno.
